Love the look

Hello, hello! I hope you had a fabulous week. Things are good here, a little busy but great! Be sure to follow us on Instagram for updates on current Shelter projects and happenings. I'm hustling to get my work done this am. Later this afternoon I'm hosting twelve girls at my home for a birthday party for Emerson. It'll be fun, hectic but fun. I enjoy a good party and obviously the decorations. She is all about "a dance party" this year. (that's my girl).

Onto my post.....Winter can get old and truthfully when working at the office I am guilty of dressing for comfort and warmth. When I venture out to meetings and appointments I do however adore a sharp outfit. Lately, I am all about camel (or chambray) and wide leg winter white pants. This combo is sophisticated but approachable - it's perfect for work or  better yet afternoon drinks with the girls. The white pants I shared are darling!  Cheers to a fantabulous weekend! Cottage Love #60 - 2018

Eek, I found a goodie to kick off the Cottage Love series for 2018! Well, here we are in the midst of the suckiest coldest time of year in New England. I can either embrace it with a cozy down vibe in my home and for my wardrobe or I could complain. I am guilty of a little bit of bitching, especially when I come out to an ice covered walkway, car and driveway in the early am - (which happened this am). Designer Jennifer Schoenberger's Atlanta home is full of warm moments with an edge. I am drawn to her sultry use of fabrics and the rich, neutral color palette. The cypress clad family room alone was enough to stop me in my tracks! See for yourself: Read more here. Photography by Lauren Rubenstein.

Shelter Loves

This weekend went by surprisingly fast. We have a three day weekend here in Ma. I'm looking forward to organizing my house/closet and hanging out with the kids. All around it was a great week. I feel very lucky to have a number of interesting projects at the moment! Here's a peek at what I'm loving this week.

1. I am constantly inspired by nature. I love the beautiful tones of these flamingos.
2. Creating something from nothing is a wonderful thing. With some creative planning, awkward spaces such as attics can be transformed into beautiful, functional rooms.
3. We are taking the kiddos to Disney in March. I think I am as excited as they are to head someplace warm this winter season. This company carries wonderful weekend bags.
4. The words and philosophies of Martin Luther King resonate with me now more than ever. He was a peacemaker and stood up for justice, freedom and civil rights for all. This year marks the 50th anniversary of his tragic death. He was the perfect example of a true leader!
5. I am wearing this sweater right now. It is so cozy and soft, I know I'll throw it on ALL the time. It runs a bit large but looks great with a tank underneath. I am wearing mine slightly off the shoulder with skinny pants. I purchased the size down in the ivory shade. I was sold the moment I saw the sales woman with it on at Anthro.
6. You can't go wrong with winter white or wide leg pants right now. I kept some fabulous pairs from about ten years ago. I'm not sure I will be able to zip them but I may break them out this weekend.
7. I dream of having a jewelry drawer like this!!!

Biscuit Home

We all have certain designers that speak to us for one reason or another. I'm actually drawn to an array of styles and looks - from modern to classic. And it's definitely in my wheelhouse to create both or a seamless blend of the two for my clients. I do however, find that interiors and architecture that have a sense of history and meaning, soar. Bailey does just that with her business, the prints and designs have a classic foundation but feel fresh, new and never stuffy. I will also never tire of a good monogram. I recently selected one of the sheet prints as the starting point for a little Southern girl's bedroom. I always love to see what she has up her sleeve. Biscuit Home added a much needed bedding source to the market and I continually visit her site for design pieces that include bedding, accessories and furniture. I love to use color on my projects, so her love of color is much appreciated too. I thoroughly enjoyed, House of Harper's interview with her. Bailey's boutique, aptly named Biscuit Home, is beautifully executed!! Her home is also stunning. Photo Credit: Kathryn Worsham.
I used a similar blue color on my bedside tables and I'm thinking of mixing it with lavender in my daughter's room revamp this Spring!

Hope for a brighter morning!

A good morning it is indeed. It seems lately, many things are pointing in the direction of hope. I love starting my week and year off on a positive note.  If you have not had a moment to watch Oprah's Cecil B. DeMille award acceptance speech, please do. It made my morning, scratch that, week! She is truly an incredible person, an inspiration and a gifted speaker. THANK YOU, OPRAH! Watch it here. #TIMESUP  At this point, I could care less what everyone was wearing. ;)

Shelter Loves

Hello Friday! We've been hit hard with a winter storm and some pretty bad flooding in the Boston area. After witnessing the amount of ocean water that took over local homes yesterday, I'm happy I am not in the flood zone!! We are all snuggling down this weekend, the temps have dropped to well under freezing and below zero with the wind chill. I can only imagine this is what it feels like to live in North Dakota or Canada! I've been trying to balance mothering with working all week with the vacay and snow days but here is what's on my radar besides a hot toddy. xx

1. I collect design books, The Authentics, is high on my priority list of purchases. I've always admired Melanie's work and Dara Caponigro's sense of style. You just can't go wrong with this combo of women.
2. I have been working on a design job with a very neutral palette. I'm really happy with how it is turning out and will be selecting the artwork soon! I'm loving everything about these photographs - the scale, color, frames....
3. Amen, Maya.
4. I mentioned I wanted to cook more healthy meals in 2018. I love the idea of "bowl" cooking and think I may try this recipe next! I've always cooked tried them but want to explore more veggie options.
5. How darling are these!? I don't wear brown much but I've also had my eyes on these!!
6. DOWN jackets!! I have no issue with wearing a puffy down coat in the winter!! I prefer to be warm over freezing my ass off. Granted this chic version is a Moncler . This option is a bit more wallet friendly - Most down coats are on sale right now!
7. Simple and pretty earrings are a week day go to for me. I adore these

Happy New Year!

I always kick off the New Year reflecting on what I've learned over the past year. I believe most of the "not so great" teaches us valuable life lessons on how to create more "good" in our lives. I'm also including some goals that I'm motivated to work on. I hope you were all able to sneak in a little "you" time over the holiday break. I love celebrating with friends and family but I'm also big on the fresh start a new year brings. It's time to clean up the house and create more memories...Cheers to a fabulous 2018, may it be filled with love, peace, health and prosperity! Wishing you all the best, thank you for continually reading my blog and all the support. xx

What I learned in 2017:

1. I've learned to let go a little bit. I tend to ruminate on what bothers me and worry about the future too much. Most of what I obsess over never happens anyway.
2. I've also learned to push through the negative and unavoidable in life. I don't dwell or sulk for long. I do everything I can that day/week or whatever time I need to and then devise a game plan to make a change for the better!!
3. We cannot control everything in life but we can control our response. Always pause before you speak and/or act. This is your true super power!!
4. A positive mind set does help!! I actually started my first working morning off in 2018 with a flat tire that landed me on the side of the road. Because it is 3 degrees out, the tow truck took three hours to arrive. I was frustrated but I decided I was not going to let this ruin my day or even the time I spent in my car waiting. I was also very thankful my boyfriend came and helped me.
5. I've always known this but I do more than ever now. Hugs are much more effective than raising your voice. Parenting takes a great amount of patience. I am continually working on being a better Mother.
6. I am not overly religious but I have found that praying is a form of meditation. I am very thankful for my health and for the health of those I love! I never take this for granted.
7. If something does not go my way, I now try to think there is a bigger and better plan in store. I move on.
8. I don't take much personally anymore, even compliments. Think about this one.
9. To practice more self love.
10. To appreciate the here and now, nothing is ever going to be perfect.
11. Focus on the good - I am getting better at this and am teaching my children the same.
12. Your metabolism absolutely slows down as you get older. I used to be able to lose five lbs in two weeks, not anymore.

My 2018 goals:

1. Save more. I need to become better at managing, saving and planning with my money.
2. I am continually trying to strive for perfection. (see #11 above) The "grass is always greener" syndrome never helps. I need to check this a little, focus on the here and now and enjoy what I have.
3. Cook more interesting recipes and find some new, healthy meals to cook. I really enjoy cooking but feel a little stifled by what my kids want to eat. (Mac and cheese etc.)
4. Read more. I always enjoyed escaping with a book but I am usually too tired at night. I am thinking of spending less time on the phone and more time with great books.
5. Start a monthly game night with my children. (even friends) This was my daughter's suggestion but I love it. I feel a little guilty that I work around my children so much. November and December were particularly insane.
6. Get more organized around my house.
7. Exercise an extra day! Again, this goes back to lack of time during the day but I feel and look better when I can exercise 4-5 days a week. (A very predictable goal I know)
8. To STOP letting swears slip in front of my kids. I am 100% working on this!! My son mentioned it to me. 😖
8. To continue to grow my business!!

New Year's Eve style

What are you doing New Years, New Year's Eve? (Sorry, I couldn't help it) I don't have any major plans this year and I am OK with that. I don't want to leave the house let alone dress up in this zero degree weather. Let's pretend for a moment that I am going to some swanky party. Here is a look I love. I mean seriously, Rosie would look good wearing a trash bag. Cheers, stay cozy!

Here are a few other options:

This top is pretty and I have my eye on this clutch, a sequin skirt is also an option!

The day after

I don't know about you but I'm feeling pretty fried today. My house is a post Christmas disaster. I do however have a bit of energy left to visit all the amazing sales online today! Mind you, I am posting this from the comfort of my cozy bed. My daughter and I are hanging and maybe I will get the energy to clean around 12. I told my kids they are responsible for their own bedrooms and that we are not leaving the house until it looks livable again! Cheers, hope you had a wonderful holiday!! xx

MADEWELL - 30% OFF ALL SALE

THAT SHOULD KEEP US BUSY THIS AM!!

It's also almost time for Mama to make a Mimosa...I am excited the chaos is over (about 7 hours of wrapping - what is that??) and am looking forward to a calm day with my family. Peace to you all!! xoxo
